Short Boards of Air Source Heat Pump Technology

In spite of the quick developing of heat pumps in recent years, the technology of this industry still has some short boards:

1. Compressor problem. Without doubt, compressors are the core parts of heat pumps. Unfortunately, compressor technology for heat pumps are not good enough for the emerging industry. In such a high  temperature and high pressure working condition of heat pumps, conventional compressors are easy to be aging and burnt-out. Currently there are few manufacturers who produce dedicate compressors for heat pumps. The fact is, many China heat pump factories have to use air conditioner compressors in their heat pumps or import expensive heat pumps from overseas. Continue reading

Be Kind to Your Heat Pumps: 9 Points for Maintenance

Some guys are used to keep their heat pumps working without any maintenance. It’s not right. Like other appliances, heat pumps need to be taken care of, or their lifespans would be shortened.

1. Protect fins of condensers and evaporators. Fins are made of aluminum sheets with a thickness of 0.15mm so they can not bear collision. If fins are collided (dumped), the defrosting function and the efficiency will be affected. So be careful to the fins of your heat pumps when delivery and installation.

2. Protect refrigeration system. If some parts or pipes of the refrigeration system are damaged, the refrigerant will leak and the heat pump will not work. Continue reading

Advantages and Drawbacks of Heat Pump Water Heaters

Heat pump water heaters are new generation water heaters after gas water heaters, electric water heaters and solar water heaters. Heat pump water heaters are safe, efficient, and Eco-friendly. They can keep working 365 days in one year. To produce same volume of hot water, the running cost of heat pump water heaters is only 1/4 of electric water heaters, 1/3 of gas water heaters, and 1/2 of solar water heaters.

Advantages of heat pump water heaters:

  1. Big volume of hot water. Tanks of heat pump water heaters can be customized according to requirements.
  2. Efficiency. Heat pump water heaters get heat energy from ambient air. COP reaches 400%. Running periods can be set by users to control costs.
  3. Wild range applications. Heat pump water heaters are not affected much by rainy days and cloudy days. Can work in -10℃~ 43℃. Heat pump water heaters can be installed at houses, hotels, restaurants, schools, hospitals, dormitories, saunas, etc. Continue reading

Heat Pump Water Heater Working in Cold Climates (-20℃)

(Air Source) heat pump water heater working at low ambient air temperature.

air source heat pump water heater (air-water heat pump) working at low ambient air temperature

heat pump water heater working at low ambient air temperature

Ambient air temp: -20.3℃; Water temp at hot water outlet: 56.74℃

As we all know, low ambient air temperature is the biggest challenge to air source heat pumps. When the ambient temp drops to 0℃ or even lower, not only the COP will drop fast, also the defrosting system and system control become crucial. That’s why many cheap air-water heat pump from China can only work in >-5℃ ambient air temp and be sold in South China, Europe, Oceania and other temperate zones. Continue reading

Points of Heat Pump Water Heater Installation

This article is for installations of air source heat pump water heaters.

1. Carry

  • The units shall be kept horizontally when carrying. Angle of inclination can’t be greater than 45 degree. Up-side-down is forbidden to avoid refrigerant leakage and compressor damage.

2. Check out

  • Packing properly, better framed with wooden support to avoid damage during transportation.

3. Installation of heat pumps

  • The considerations of heat pump outdoor unit installation are same with those of air conditioners. Can be installed on exterior walls, roofs and grounds.
  • The distance between heat pumps and tanks should be less than 5M, better less than 3M.
  • The distance between heat pumps and walls all around or shelters can’t be too little.
  • If they are installed to protect heat pumps, make sure rain-sheds will not prevent heat pumps form heat exchange with air.
  • Heat pumps shall be installed on solid bases and fixed with expansion bolts.
  • Control panels better be not installed in bathrooms. Continue reading

Application and Investment Solutions of Air-Water Heat Pumps

With the developing of human society, requirements on hot water are are higher. Conventional water heaters, like boilers, electric water heaters, solar water heaters, are not good enough. Air-water heat pumps are such products that can meet the hot water requirements with big supply, high pressure and constant temperature. Below are application and investment solutions of air-water heat pumps in different industrial markets:

  • Student dormitory: multi-machine parallel connection, autocontrol. One system for each dormitory building. IC-card water control or timing water control. Regulate hot water supply according to the season. In summers heating less water and in winters heating more. If it’s solar water heaters the regulation will be difficult but heat pumps can do it well. Continue reading

History of Water Heaters

Hot water, human’s favorite.  Everyone like shower with warm water instead of cold. In some countries people keep the custom of drinking boiled hot water. They believe it’s better to body than cold water. In modern society hot water is used in many places, civil and industrial. So water heaters are really important appliances in human society.

boiler

boiler

The oldest water heaters are boilers. When the huamn being learned to boil water with pots or other vessels, they were using the eldest boilers.  With technical development, fuels were changing and vessels are chaning too. But all the boilers are burning fuels to heat water, which is not changing. Till now, boilers are still popular: coal boilers, natural gas boilers, or even firewood boilers in developing countries. Main Applications of Air Water Heat Pumps in Current Markets

As new emerging products, air water heat pumps (heat pump water heaters) have realized many energy efficient applications for water/space heating and cooling in recent ten years.

swimming pool

swimming pool

Do you know, the earliest market success of heat pump water heaters came from swimming pools. Firstly, the water volume in a pool is huge, so heating them need big amount of energy: fuels or electric, depending on what kind of water heaters the pool owner use. Secondly, the water temperature requirement is not high:less than 30 C degree will be OK. In other words, the terminal temperature of heat pumps (if used for pools) will not be too high. These two reasons bring about the application of heat pumps for swimming pools. In fact, you will say “what a ideal product designed for pools” when you know the performance of this kind of products. The COP of swimming pool heat pumps reaches 5, which means 1 electric can bring 5 heating energy. The number of traditional water heaters (broilers or electric water heaters) will not be more than 1. Nowadays, swimming pool heat pumps are popular in many Europe countries. People install them for pools of their houses. Of coures, more and more pools in gym are also heated by heat pumps. Even in aquaculture farms, heat pumps are installed for fishes, for they need stable and warm water to grow quickly.

Solar Water Heaters V.S. Heat Pump Water Heaters, Competitors or Friends?

solar vs heat pump

solar vs heat pump, competitors or friends?

1.Sharing the majority of energy efficient water heaters, solar and heat pumps are competitors

Going ahead of photovoltaic technology and  solar electricity generation technology, solar water heater technology is the most mature In the industry of solar.  What’s more, solar water heaters are applied in rural markets widely.  contributing to energy saving, Eco-friendship and life quality.  China is the biggest and most fast developing country in global solar industry.  Currently the annual output of solar water heaters in China is 2 times as many as that in Europe and 4 times as many as that in South America. And it’s increasing at speed of 20~30% per year.
